A free and responsible search for meaning
is one of UU's Seven Principles.
That's the reason for this page which offers a theme and then presents a couple of ways to ponder that theme. The material stays on this page for two months and then moves to an archive page, so can re-visit it or refer friends in the future.

"Hopes and Dreams" is our theme for July and August,
and to examine it we have three videos that examine the importance of maintaining hope in our lives.

First, Jacqueline Novogratz tells a moving story
of an encounter in a Nairobi slum with Jane, a former prostitute, whose dreams of escaping poverty, of becoming a doctor and of getting married were fulfilled in an unexpected way. About seven minutes.

Next, surgeon and writer Sherwin Nuland
meditates on the idea of hope -- the desire to become our better selves and make a better world. It's a thoughtful 12 minutes that will help you focus on the road ahead.

Finally, a music video from the group OK Go
--accompanied by the University of Notre Dame Marching Band.

The song is "Let It Go, This Too Shall Pass" and while some of the lyrics (which you can find online) are not easy to understand, the sheer exuberance of the video is bound to leave you more hopeful than you were before you watched it.
