Cyber Altar
Everyon has to be first at something! We're not keeping records but as far as we know we're the first site to host a UU Cyber Altar - call it an online silent Candles Of Community.
One of the most meaningful parts of our service revolves around Candles of Community; members, visitors and friends may come forward and light one or more candles, share a joy or concerns, or speak not a word, and place the candle in the sand in a large bowl. Next to this bowl our chalice burns. These flames burn during the rest of the service.
Many of us also light candles - or our own personal chalice - at home.
Now the Cyber Altar gives us another option: Candles that don't run the risk of getting out of control! We're sure that our county fire department will never have to respond to the Cyber Altar.
When you click below a new window will open up with the candles already burning.
Use this during a meditative period, to remember or mark special occasions, in memory or someone special or just as a constant reminder of the larger community of UU's all over the world.
You can even leave this window open and the altar 'active' all day and night if you wish, but when you're ready to extinguish the flames, just close the browser window showing them.
